Woman sentenced to jail for bank theft
April 21, 2009
Total Loss:
$173,000
A Thunder Bay woman who misused more than $170,000 from the bank where she was a long-time employee isn‘t entitled to serve her sentence in the community despite the fact she was addicted to gambling, a Superior Court judge has ruled. A bank audit showed that for a three-year period beginning in June 2004, she made 43 separate withdrawals from accounts. While it‘s believed she misappropriated more than $173,000, the bank is seeking repayment of just $129,000.
O‘Neill, who worked 30 years at the bank, is now making restitution through her $683 monthly pension. So far, about $6,000 has been repaid.
