Two Hungarian refugees have been charged in the ATM fraud. A 36-year-old Toronto man and a 39-year-old man, of no fixed address, face several charges in an alleged ATM tampering scheme after being arrested by Durham Regional Police. After a six-week investigation, the Durham police fraud unit says the men tampered with more than 20 bank machines in Barrie, Angus and Bradford, but also in Oshawa, Bowmanville, Uxbridge, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and Toronto. Durham police say the suspects attached devices over the debit card slot to capture data and also installed a pinhole camera to capture PINs. The information was then used to make fake debit cards to withdraw money from the accounts.
