Investigation Continues into $1 million Bank Embezzlement Case
August 10, 2009
Total Loss:
$1 million
An investigation into an alleged $1 million embezzling scheme by two former employees of Hancock Bank in Ocean Springs, Mississippi is continuing, according to the FBI. Margaret Migues and Doris Willie Burney were fired in July after a bank investigation revealed the women took money from 20 or more accounts, said bank spokesman Paul Maxwell. Migues was a branch operations manager, and Burney was a teller. The bank has turned over its findings to the FBI, Maxwell said. The employees are accused of taking money from the accounts of elderly customers, bank officials said. The money missing from the accounts was replaced with interest, said Maxwell. The women had worked at the Ocean Springs downtown main branch since 1985.
