Mesa man pleads guilty to bank fraud

Jake David Abegg Whitman, 33, of Mesa pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and seven counts of bank fraud. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said Whitman played a leading role in obtaining mortgage loans on 19 residential properties in metro Phoenix that were substantially larger than the actual value of the properties — often by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
