Resort man pleads guilty in credit card fraud case

An Ocean City man has pleaded guilty in a fraud scheme in which he and his wife charged more than $75,000 to the credit cards of deceased relatives. Joel Swartz, 65, faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for his role in a conspiracy to commit bank fraud, according to the office of the Maryland U.S. Attorney. His wife, Esther, who was indicted at the same time, died before charges against her were resolved.
