RCMP have broken up a credit and debit card skimming ring believed linked to significant amounts of fraud across the Lower Mainland. Acting on a tip, investigators searched a rental car and two rooms at a North Shore hotel, where they found PIN pads, counterfeit credit cards, modified gift cards, laptops, PDA devices, electronic tools, printed circuit boards, credit card readers and supplies for modifying PIN pads. Modified PIN pads that could be swapped with legitimate ones at retail outlets were found that are capable storing and transmitting up to 5,000 stolen card numbers wirelessly to a remote PDA or laptop.
