A Rhode Island woman has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for her role in a $1.7 million mortgage fraud scheme. Lisa Torres admitted buying nine residential properties in Providence, then enlisting straw purchasers and arranging phony sales so she could obtain mortgage financing. She pocketed the loan proceeds.
