Former Bank Employee Pleads Guilty to Bank Fraud Over 30 Year Period
July 24, 2009
Total Loss:
$720,000
Betty Pacocha, 75, defrauded New Mil Bank/Webster Bank in New Milford of $722,817.18, according to her plea before United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven. Ms. Pacocha started with the New Mil Bank (then New Milford Savings Bank) as a teller in 1961 and over the years was promoted to branch manager, vice president and compliance officer and, finally, executive vice president and corporate secretary of New Mil Bank.
As bank manager, Ms. Pacocha started stealing from the accounts in 1976 and continued the shell game with the CD accounts until 2006, a period which included several weeks after New Mil Bank merged with Webster Bank in October 2006.
