Newton man sentenced to 46 months for check fraud

A Newton man charged with participating in an fraudulent check scheme was sentenced to 46 months in prison Friday in federal court. Authorities say Lenard Christi, 69, of Newtonville, engaged in a scheme in which he and another man deposited forged, counterfeit and altered checks into accounts at various local banks and wired the proceeds overseas.
