Woman Sentenced in Bank Fraud Scheme
June 22, 2009
Total Loss:
$177,000
Last year, for a time, it appeared crime did pay for a woman from Columbia County. She deposited a check for $1,700. But, the bank recorded it as $177,000. Authorities say the woman and her husband ended up spending most of the extra money until they were caught. Thursday morning, Melissa Pratt left the Columbia County Courthouse in Bloomsburg in handcuffs. She is headed to a state correctional facility for up to two years for stealing nearly $177,000 from an FNB bank. In court, Pratt said she thought it was her money, and the incident was a misunderstanding. But, Columbia County District Attorney Gary Norton says it was no mistake. Pratt knew exactly what was going on.
