November 24, 2009
Total Loss:
$200,000
A Miami man who pleaded guilty to tax and identity theft charges was sentenced to three years in prison Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Miami. The defendant, Gary Bart Rosenfeld, 53, was also ordered to pay his victims more than $200,000 in restitution. Rosenfeld operated a tax return preparation business, Taxing Solutions Inc., from 2004 to 2007. In 2005, he filed fraudulent income tax returns for others in which he misrepresented wages, income and withholding amounts, and fabricated tuition payments, education credits and child-care expenses on his clients' tax returns -- totaling a tax loss of $177,588, authorities said.
