Total Loss:
$120,000
A Capitol Heights man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison Monday for orchestrating an identity theft scheme in which perpetrators stole driver's licenses, credit cards and other documents and then dressed up in wigs and glasses to impersonate the victims at banks, federal authorities said. Charles H. Belim, 58, pleaded guilty to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. According to court documents, Belim directed co-conspirators to pickpocket personal documents. His wife, Jacqueline E. Belim, 49, of Capitol Heights and other co-conspirators would pretend to be the victims and withdraw cash from their accounts, authorities said.
