Total Loss:
$28,000
An owner of a Verona restaurant and convenience store was sentenced to two months in jail last week for defrauding three banks out of more than $28,000 last year. According to a criminal complaint filed against Zhang in February, Zhang last year repeatedly wrote convenience checks from maxed-out credit cards and deposited them at Anchor Bank, Amcore Bank and Associated Bank. She then withdrew money from the falsely inflated accounts.
