The former owner of The Inn at Chester has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for a series of bank frauds that prosecutors say he arranged to obtain and later borrow against the hotel and spa. U.S. District Judge Janet B. Arterton sentenced Edward J. Safdie, 71, of Madison, to 51 months following an extended hearing that ended late Tuesday in New Haven. In addition, Safdie was ordered to repay $1.1 million to Acorn Capital, an asset-based lender in Greenwich.
