Former Mineola Bookkeeper Sentenced for Bank Fraud

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 48-year-old Mineola, Texas woman has been sentenced to federal prison for bank fraud in the Eastern District of Texas. Bethie Annette Horn pleaded guilty on Dec. 29, 2009, to bank fraud and was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider. Horn was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $427,023.68. According to information presented in court, from April 2006 to April 2008, Horn, who was employed as a bookkeeper for Donovan White Cabinets in Mineola, devised a scheme to defraud her employer by forging checks issued on the company's Capital One Bank account. To facilitate the scheme, Horn wrote checks made payable to herself and then deposited them into her personal bank account without the knowledge or permission of her employer. Horn was indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 7, 2009 and charged with bank fraud. Posted in: Check Fraud
