A St. Louis woman was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison Tuesday for a fraudulent check scheme that cost Walmart almost $100,000.
Randa Bryant, 41, pleaded guilty to a felony wire fraud charge and admitted creating fake checks that she then used to buy merchandise in Walmart stores in Missouri, Illinois and five other states. She returned the merchandise for cash before Walmart discovered the checks were no good. Bryant's scheme was uncovered after she was arrested at a south St. Louis County Walmart in December.
Bryant must repay $99,247. She also faces state charges in Perry, Franklin and Crawford counties, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Albus said. Last month, she was sentenced to seven years in prison for theft in the Crawford County case.
