VISTA: Lopez's check-bouncing spanned years
August 3, 2010
Total Loss:
$185,000
Former employees at Frank and Mary Lopez's Casa Linda restaurant in Vista say workers were so accustomed to having their paychecks bounce that they tried several techniques to ensure they got paid ---- racing to the bank before the couple's account ran dry, or making sure they cashed their checks from the restaurant's till.
The check-bouncing at Casa Linda persisted for years. In response to employee complaints, the Sheriff's Department launched an investigation in February 2009 that discovered 656 bad checks written between 2004 and 2009, totaling more than $185,000, sheriff's Sgt. Mark Varnau said last week.
