Man arrested in Elkhart County found guilty of bank fraud and identity theft

A man arrested in a traffic stop in Elkhart County has been convicted in a multi-state bank fraud ring. Elkhart Police pulled over Ion Preda and Marcus Casian for speeding last May. The pair were involved in a scam that captured the pin and magnetic strip information on ATM cards during customer transactions. After acquiring the information, they then used it to gain access to the accounts. Preda and Casian were wanted by the Secret Service for scams throughout Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud as well as aggravated identity theft for his part in the ATM "skimming" scheme.
