Woman sentenced to one day for bank fraud

A Harnett County woman was sentenced to a day in federal prison and ordered to repay more than $100,000 after pleading guilty to bank fraud, according to court records. Karen Pope Ferguson was sentenced Dec. 15 at a federal courthouse in Greenville by Senior Judge Malcolm J. Howard. A former loan officer, Ferguson altered bank documents to funnel a line of home equity to herself, according to investigators. She was charged following a probe by the U.S. Secret Service.
