Man accused of bank fraud

January 11, 2010
Total Loss: $27,000
A St. Louis man was indicted in U.S. District Court on Thursday for allegedly opening 23 bank accounts at Bank of America branches in Missouri, Illinois and Nevada and using them to run up about $27,000 in debts. Thomas P. Cochran, 57, set up shell companies and opened the accounts with a small deposit, then used a check card for purchases that exceeded that amount, prosecutors said. Cochran was indicted on one bank fraud charge for each account.
