January 25, 2010
Total Loss: $14,000
Alexandria Police officers on Friday morning arrested a Washington state man they say was involved in a scheme that defrauded a bank at least three times. Christopher J. Walters, 31, of 4004 E. Wellesley, Spokane, Wash., was charged with one count of bank fraud. According to the Alexandria Police report, three people came into the Sabine Bank on Jackson Street on May 15, 18 and 19. On each of the days, a man came into the bank talking on a cell phone, handing the teller an access card and asking for an amount of money that wasn't in the account. To reassure the teller, the man would hand the teller the cell phone, and the person on the other end of the phone would convince the teller to withdraw the money.
