The ringleader in a check-fraud scheme that allowed her and three conspirators to obtain $68,404 in money and merchandise with phony checks was sentenced Friday to 15 months in federal prison and ordered to make restitution to retailers. Melanie Gagne, 38, and three co-conspirators -- her brother, Matthew Gagne, 30; her sister-in-law, Cynthia Lapan, 25, and her boyfriend and housemate Anthony Manzo, 44, all of North Providence -- pleaded guilty to wire fraud last June
