Sioux Center man sentenced to prison for bank fraud

A Sioux Center man will spend 30 days in federal prison for defrauding a bank he worked at. The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa said in statement released today that Calvin Cleveringa, 50, received the prison term Dec. 30 after pleading guilty to one count of making a false entry in bank records at the American State Bank in Sioux Center. Cleveringa, who was acting vice president and loan officer at the time the crime was committed, admitted that from April 2001 through Jan. 2003 he made false entries in the books, reports and statements of American State Bank in connection with a $120,000 loan.
