Bank manager charged with theft

A bank manager has confessed to pilfering more than $3 million from a north Queensland branch, police have told a court. Colin John Carleton faced Mareeba Magistrates Court on Monday charged with one count of stealing as a servant. The 55-year-old manager of Bendigo Bank's Atherton branch disappeared on July 13 before a scheduled meeting with the bank's fraud investigators. He was arrested on Sunday at a camping ground at Cape Tribulation, in the Daintree rainforest.
