Nigerian authorities say they have arrested a North Carolina woman who they suspect may be part of a counterfeit check ring. A spokesman for Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says 24-year-old Sharon Denis Thorpe of Raleigh, N.C., was arrested Saturday as she attempted to board a flight to the U.S. en route to Washington D.C. The spokesman says Thorpe was carrying more than $760,000 worth of fake checks. The spokesman says authorities believe the woman's fiance is the mastermind of the check scheme, but that he has yet to be found.
