The former president and vice president of a Mercedes bank along with two local real estate contractors have been charged with bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud in McAllen’s U.S. District Court, authorities said Monday. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a 16-count indictment unsealed Monday reveals a kick-back scheme that prosecutors say cost Mercedes-based Texas National Bank about $500,000. FBI agents on Friday arrested Valle Escondido, LLC owner Homer Guzman, 43, at his home in Edinburg, prosecutors said, and he is being held in federal custody without bond until a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
