January 24, 2011
Total Loss: $430,000

A Houma father and stepson are charged with stealing nearly half a million dollars from the Raceland seafood business where they worked. The Daily Comet reported on Saturday that 54-year-old Edward Snyder is charged with bank fraud, felony theft and 195 counts of monetary-instrument abuse. Authorities say his 19-year-old stepson, Jared Ferriss is charged with bank fraud, felony theft and 67 counts of monetary-instrument abuse. Both men were working for Fishing Jim Seafood in Raceland. According to the Lafourche Sheriff's Office, Snyder altered and cashed checks worth more than $430,000 over the past two years. Investigators say that during that time, Snyder also altered payroll records to pay his stepson more than $33,000 extra.
