After her purse was stolen, an Ionia County woman said thieves cashed checks for $9,000.
“Awesome, I know,” she said wryly in an email.
On Wednesday, Wendy Sue Bailey of Saginaw pleaded guilty to bank fraud in connection with a crime ring that stole purses to cash stolen checks and defraud banks in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio of at least $58,305.
The government said that beginning in January, “several male associates whose real identities were not known to” Bailey broke into parked cars and stole checkbooks and identification, including drivers' licenses.
