A Lynchburg couple was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court for their roles in a scheme that bilked banks and businesses out of more than $40,000. Cassandra Tucker, 29, and Robert “Joe” Tucker Jr., 20, both formerly of Waterlick Road, opened a series of checking accounts at local banks, then made worthless deposits using checks from new accounts, according to court records and previous testimony. The Tuckers then withdrew money on instant credit from the banks and wrote bad checks to merchants.
